Melis Law is a boutique law firm founded by Lisa Melis in 2024, after 16 years in practice at one of Africa’s largest law firms.
Lisa brings with her a wealth of experience in dealing with complex, commercial matters. Lisa has built up an established track record over the last decade and a half as a trusted advisor to her clients.

We have deep experience in all forms of commercial dispute resolution, including High Court litigation, arbitration and mediation.
Insolvency and Business Rescue
We assist clients in relation to both formal and informal distressed restructuring processes, including business rescue, section 155 compromises and liquidations.
Corporate and Commercial
We assist clients in drafting and negotiating standard as well as bespoke commercial agreements. We also provide guidance and practical support through the transactional and closing process.
Banking and Finance
We assist our clients in the drafting and negotiation of finance documents as well as offering support in relation to financial close processes and implementation.

Meet Lisa
Lisa graduated from Stellenbosch University with a BA LLB degree in 2008. She completed her articles at ENS in Cape Town and practised as a partner in the Insolvency, Business Rescue and Restructuring team and the Banking and Finance team at ENS until 2024.
Lisa has deep expertise in commercial litigation, distressed restructuring, business rescue and insolvency matters, having acted for banks, large corporates, business rescue practitioners, liquidators and retailers over the past decade and a half.
Lisa also has extensive experience in the negotiating and drafting of commercial and funding agreements, including in the context of financial distress.
Lisa has been commended by her peers for her clarity under pressure, solution-driven approach to complex matters and for maintaining her sense of humour no matter the context.
